FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions. Who? What? Why? When? Where? How?
Who are you?
You can read about us on the about page.
What are you attempting to do?
Well, it would be nice to make a few dollars a month as a Big Fish affiliate, and from a few chosen ads.
It would be really nice to pay the internet bill while supporting a charity.
The main goal is to be a place where gray gamers have a voice where we can share, learn and help each other.
We know there are gray gamers online just like us from newbies to hardcores.
What’s a newbie or hardcore?
Newbies are people who are ‘new’ to a site or a genre such as games, online shopping, computers…
Hardcores…games or a game are their passion whether they play on a console or pay to play online.
Most of us are somewhere in between. Thanks for the question, we should start a gray game dictionary.
Where are you?
Canada.
Jan and I live in Canada, we’re Canadians, Canucks; this site ‘The Gray Gamers’ is hosted ( sits on a server) in the US, and we’re aiming for readers from the UK, New Zealand Australia, the US and all ports in between.
What is a Gray Gamer?
A gray gamer is considered to be anyone over 35.
Get it?
Gray haired?
The gaming industry targets kids, teens and 20 somethings, and because it’s an industry, 35 is the new old.
I also see a Gray Gamer as someone who kind of falls between the cracks into a gray zone, a group of consumers who are only beginning to be seen as valuable to a multi billion dollar industry.
You link to some sites with a lot of ads. That’s annoying!
You’re right, ads are annoying, but online game sites have to make a living. Please keep your anti-virus updated, I recommend using Firefox if you are on a Windows computer (you can block ads more easily, get rid of cookies, spyware and all the gunk easily).
Don’t click on anything you aren’t sure of. Trust your gut. It’s worked so far, hasn’t it?
We learn by exploring and there are sites and people who target our curiousity.
Example:
If you get monkey-locked (stuck on a site that won’t click off) hold down your control button while hitting the alt button and then delete. Control-alt-delete. That should get you out of a monkey lock, if not, double click on your bottom toolbar, go to task manager, applications, highlight the site and hit end task.
Tell us and if any site we’ve linked to is responsible for that kind of nonsense, they are outta here.
What is your goal?
Modest. Run a site where you and I are honoured and respected.
If enough people stop by we’ll start a forum where all things game can be talked about.
Make some money so we can sell some cool, classy and fun Gray Gamer stuff.
Have fun.
I’ve never commented on a game site or played an online game. What do I do?
Comment! It’s easy.
We do not give out your personal information such as your email or location.
Ever.
If some smart ass comes to The Gray Gamers to hassle or disrespect anyone new, bwwaaahhhh! I have the ban key. Banning a smart-ass won’t cause me to lose a wink of sleep.
There are a couple of ways to play online games.
The Gray Gamers is an affiliate site of Big Fish Games, if you click over and chose to buy a game you try, we get 30% of the purchase price.
What is Charity of the Month?
That will be up to you. We’ll accept your recommendations and check them out. If a charity is transparent, honest and effective, they’ll be our charity of the month. 11% of all proceeds from being an affiliate and from clicked ads each month from The Gray Gamers will go to that charity.
We’ll post that amount, and you can check with the charity to see if they got the cheque from us.
Life is too short to be sneaky, honesty is the best policy, we want a good reputation and all that stuff.
I don’t know how this feature will do but let’s give it a try. I chose the MS Society of Canada when this site came online and wrote them to ask if I could use their registered logo. I think that was important so you’d recognize we’re serious about this, and charities understand we are serious about them. I haven’t heard back. Hmmm. They’ll get their 11% anyway and we’ll post the amount each month even if it’s a $1.00. We’ll start the month when the ads are up and the Big Fish game of the day application is coded in, okay? Uppity date: Tried again and got their top dog, marketing guru, big guy, head honcho who was really really fun and helpful. Persistance pays off; nothing like asking someone very busy to get the job done. My hat’s off to them. That’ll teach me to just try once!
Why are you focusing in on PC games and Wii? Aren’t you reinforcing a stereotype?
It’s a go with what you know scenario. When enough gray gamers find this site and a forum is sustainable, I expect console players to jump in, mix it up, moderate for us and share their passion.
If you think we’re reinforcing a stereotype, speak up!
How do I get hold of you?
Use the contact tab.
We use a field email page to keep spammers at bay.
See, we practise what we preach. Now go play.
